WATERBURY, Connecticut – The American International College women's volleyball team swept a tri-match at Post University on Saturday, October 8, defeating Jefferson University and Post 3-0.
AIC is now 17-1 on the season.
To say the Yellow Jackets offense dominated the first two sets against the Rams sells short the efficiency at which AIC worked. The team generated 19 kills on 32 swings in the first and 15 on 24 in the second, with just four errors, to hit .536. Even in the third, with six errors, the team still swung .387, as they won 25-12, 25-14, 25-23.
Leading the way for AIC in the match was Kristina Peric. She scored 14 of AIC's 52 total kills, hitting a blistering .619 with just one error in her 21 swings. Paola Soto Burgos landed a dozen kills, and Naomi Eckert Rivera passed 38 assists while adding a pair of blocks and kills herself.
The opening set against Post was no different, with the Yellow Jackets hitting .515 on 19 kills against two errors on 33 attacks, leading to a 25-18 set win. The team then shifted to a more defensive mode, winning the second 25-11 and the third 25-19, but holding the Eagles to 10 kills against 12 errors for the balance of the match.
Soto Burgos and Aleksandra Ivanovic shined in this matchup. The former finished 17 of her 25 swings for kills against just three errors, while the latter had 10 kills on just 14 attacks, hitting .643 total. Eckert Rivera collected 33 assists in the second match.
AIC now turns back to Northeast-10 Conference play with a critical matchup against Bentley University on Tuesday, October 11 at the Butova Gym. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
