Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Soto Burgos leads offense as women's volleyball bounces back against SNHU

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire – The American International College women's volleyball team bounced back on Saturday, October 22, defeating Southern New Hampshire University 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.

AIC improves to 22-2 overall and 8-1 in the NE10.

The first set was back-and-forth, with the longest run by either team coming early as AIC went on a four-point stretch to take a 9-6 lead. It was an advantage the Yellow Jackets never relinquished, however, and Andrea Serra Rosa's kill finished the set off.

After falling behind 4-1 early in the second, AIC went on a tear, using a set of blocks by Amber Williams and Paola Soto Burgos as well as a pair of kills by the latter to take a 9-4 lead. The Hawks made a late push with a few small runs, but were not able to get in front as AIC pushed to a 2-0 lead with the set victory.

The third was perhaps the most back-and-forth of the trio of sets; AIC swung a six-point stretch to go from down three to up three only to concede five in a row and eight of nine. The Yellow Jackets chipped away at the lead, however, and were able to get ahead briefly before the Hawks tied the set at 22-22. That was the last point for the Hawks, however, as AIC notched the last three, with Serra Rosa finishing the match with a final kill.

Soto Burgos was the star of the show, hitting .536 on 16 kills with one error and adding three blocks. Williams led AIC with five blocks. Naomi Eckert Rivera posted 33 assists and seven digs, while Perla Rosa notched a team-best 14 digs.

AIC returns home on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. against Franklin Pierce University.
