HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Much like at New Haven, the Yellow Jackets dominated the first quarter, outshooting Mercy 8-0 and drawing seven corners. They hit pay dirt, too, as a pass into the middle of the circle from freshman Dominique Bassallo was deflected home by Logan Shunney off of a Mavericks defender at 11:15 for her first of the season.
  • AIC continued to push the pace in the second, drawing five more corners. However, the Mavericks defense steadied itself and kept the Yellow Jackets off the board.
  • In the third, the fortunes of the game turned on a breakout for the visitors, as Alyssa Sacco led a rush and fed Ally Schreck with a pass from the right side of the circle to the left for a score at 36:14, tying the contest.
  • The fourth quarter was a defensive struggle, as neither team was able to possess consistently in the circle, forcing overtime.
  • The guests took advantage of the seven-on-seven to tilt pressure in their favor, and executed a play into the circle from Kelly Rosenfeld to Nicole Cotton for the game-winning goal at 67:16.
