HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • AIC controlled the tempo in the first quarter, which was spent mostly in the New Haven defensive circle. The Yellow Jackets drew three corners and fired four shots, but none ended up on target.
  • In the second, the Chargers flipped the script and scored the opening goal as Alexis Rider fired a high shot home out of a scrum at the top of the AIC circle at 2:23.
  • AIC drew a pair of corners, but the New Haven defense blocked both shot attempts; the Chargers then scored on a corner of their own as Reilly Bialko's insert to the top of the circle was blasted into the net by Taylor Geaglone at 8:37.
  • New Haven kept the pressure on, but three saves in the period by junior Jessica Stone kept the deficit to 2-0 at halftime.
  • The Chargers doubled down on their offensive push in the third, but Stone made four more saves in the frame, and a pair of defensive saves by junior Michaela Vail kept the Yellow Jackets in the game.
  • AIC's defense adjusted in the fourth and kept the Chargers at bay, but the Yellow Jackets could not solve the defensive structure of New Haven in spite of two corner opportunities as the hosts held on for the win.
