Davis sets ground balls record in women's lacrosse setback to No. 3 Le Moyne

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts No. 3 Le Moyne College earned an 18-6 win over the American International College women's lacrosse team on Tuesday, April 13 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams defended well in the early going, with multiple offensive possessions failing before AIC struck first on a feed from senior Devin Coulter to graduate student Krista Iwanicki in front at 3:29.
  • The Dolphins bounced back from the early deficit, scoring four times in a 2:11 span to take a 4-1 lead.
  • AIC was able to slow Le Moyne's run, and at the 13:02 mark junior Molly Leavitt hit the net to cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • The teams traded goals over the next 10 minutes, with goals by junior Sam Giordano and sophomore Liz Day, with the latter set up by her classmate Kaitlyn Morris.
  • Le Moyne struck four times down the stretch to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.
  • The Dolphins continued to push, building to a 17-4 lead through the 16:49 mark of the second.
  • Iwanicki and Day each added a second goal down the stretch, with Coulter setting up Day's tally.
  • Le Moyne scored once more late in the game for the 18-6 final.

DAVIS SETS ANOTHER RECORD:
  • Graduate student goalkeeper Chelsea Davis collected four ground balls during the game, giving her 172 for her career, a new high-water mark for the history of the program.
  • The prior record had been held by Gina Gallo '11, with 169.
  • She moved into 19th all-time in the history of the NE10 in ground balls.
  • Davis also owns the single-season mark for AIC, having collected 68 in the 2018 season.
  • That total is tied for twelfth-most in a season in NE10 history.
