HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Offensive opportunities were at a premium in the early stages. AIC had the first shot on goal of the game, a bid by freshman Nina Gamelli that was stopped by Paige Davis, and the Chargers had two chances in a two minute span turned aside by sophomore Olivia Sousa inside the first quarter hour.
- Late in the half, AIC had its best chance to strike, as a nifty play on the left side of the box pulled Davis out of position, and senior Brianna Kydes took a shot toward what appeared to be an open net, but a diving block by Kaitlyn Price kept the ball out of the cage.
- AIC had one more opportunity in the final minute of the half, as a defender falling down left rookie Reese Carey all alone with the goalkeeper, but Davis made the save to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
- In the second half, New Haven nearly struck first after being awarded a penalty, but Dakota Cimetta rang her shot off the left post and sophomore Sierra Clark stuffed the follow-up chance.
- In the 63rd minute, AIC finally connected on an offensive rush. Junior Shannon Finnegan took a rush up the left side and fired a cross into the middle of the box that was deflected down by rookie Jordan Chatman right to Gamelli at the penalty marker, and she blasted it low into the cage at 62:23.
- New Haven pushed hard in the final half hour, generating a few looks on goal, but Clark stopped the pair of shots she faced and the defense help up as the Yellow Jackets earned a 1-0 win.
