HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

  • Junior Brandon Gaul led the second inning off with a double to left and was moved over by classmate Alejandro Mosquera on a single to left. Junior Cam Defeo lifted a flyball to left that was deep enough for Gaul to tag and make it a one-run game.
  • In the third senior Matt Krause hit a one-out double to left and later scored on a single to left by senior Anthony Clark to tie the game.
  • The Setters took the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third before scoring four runs in the fourth to lead 7-2 after four innings.
  • With Mendez on third and Constanza on first, Costanza broke for second and drew the throw from the catcher. On the throw, Mendez broke for home and scored. AIC added a run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk.
  • Pace extended their lead in the bottom of the inning with four runs as they jumped out to the 11-4 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets added a run in the eighth and the Setters two in the bottom half as they took the game 13-5.
Game 2:
  • The Yellow Jackets started hot in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded, a balk allowed the first run to score. With two outs, Mosquera singled through the left side to score Krause from third.
  • The Setters had runners on the corners in the bottom of the inning when Almonte singled through the left side.
  • AIC had a two-out rally in the top of the third. Gaul singled to second and reached second on a walk by Mosquera. Sophomore Kyle Leifert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Yellow Jackets continued to be patient as Defeo drew a walk to score a run. Michael Nazzaro followed suit and gave AIC the 4-1 lead.
  • Pace tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on four hits.
  • The home team had a runner on third in the bottom of the eighth when the third out was recorded.

  • Clark pinched hit in the top of the 11th and reached on an error by the shortstop. Freshman Alexander Morse pinch ran as redshirt junior Dalton Quinn grounded out, but Morse reached second. The Setters intentionally walked Mendez. Krause tried to make them pay with a single to right field, but Morse was thrown out at the plate. With runners on the corners, Costanza walked to load the bases. Gaul made them pay with a double to left center to clear the bases and give AIC the 7-4 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets sent the Setters down in order in the bottom of the inning to take the game.
