HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
  • The Yellow Jackets struck first in a big way in the second frame as freshman designated hitter Alejandro Mosquera slammed a solo home run to right.
  • Le Moyne responded quickly, as Drew Carroll led off the third with a triple and was driven in by Drew Fureno's double.
  • In the fifth, the Dolphins took advantage of a walk and an error, as Nick Nevins hit an RBI double; Fureno, who had reached on the error, ultimately later scored on a passed ball.
  • A walk in the following inning hurt AIC, as a subsequent stolen base and wild pitch put Derrick Miller on third, allowing Carroll to single him in, and Carroll himself stole second and third before Fureno singled him home.
  • Another walk and error in the seventh led to another pair of Le Moyne runs as Michael Smith drove in a pair of Dolphins with a single to right to make it 7-1; the eighth saw the edge expand to 9-1 with a single and a double starting the offense and Jeff Wilson's single to right driving them home.
  • AIC finally hit back in the bottom half as redshirt junior third baseman Dalton Quinn walked and sophomore left fielder Michael Cruz was hit by a pitch; senior shortstop Angel Mendez brought Quinn in with a sharply-hit single to second base, and Cruz ultimately scored on an RBI groundout by senior first baseman Matt Costanza, while Mendez was driven in on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Anthony Clark.
  • Le Moyne added a run in the ninth for the 10-4 final.
Game 2:
  • The Yellow Jackets struck first just as they did in the first game; this time it was Quinn turning on a pitch and launching a blast over the fence in left in the third inning to put his team ahead 1-0.
  • AIC was not done in the inning, as Cruz singled and Mendez doubled; two batters later, Costanza roped a single to center that drove both runners in to give AIC a 3-0 edge.
  • Senior starter Joe Pepe went three strong, allowing just one hit and fanning three.
  • Le Moyne was equally befuddled by junior Jay Chiappetta, who fanned seven over four innings of relief.
  • The Dolphins did manage one run in the sixth; a single by Miller was followed by a lineout, but in an attempt to double Miller off, the throw ended up out of play and Miller was awarded third. Nevins then doubled him in.
  • Chiappetta finished the game in style, striking out Carroll and Miller to end the win.

NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets are set to host the University of New Haven on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 in a four-game series.
