HOW IT HAPPENED:
-
After both teams went hitless in the first, senior Anthony Clark led off the second with a double, and was pushed to third on a bunt single with one out by junior Brandon Gaul. However, Gaul was caught stealing second, and Clark ultimately was stranded at third.
-
Pace loaded the bags in the home half of the frame with one out, but senior Joe Kemlage was able to get a strikeout and a groundout to escape the threat.
-
With one out in the third, Pace struck for the first runs of the game; an infield single followed by a hit to left ultimately put runners on second and third, and a sacrifice fly brought in Pace's first run. Another single by Greg Tsouprakos made it 2-0, and a triple by Harrison Treble put Pace ahead 3-0 before the frame ended.
-
Senior Matt Krause walked to lead off the fourth, and his classmate Matt Costanza doubled to drive him in but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple.
-
In the fifth, Matt Almonte singled to lead off and took second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a fly out, and then was awarded home on a balk to make the score 4-1.
-
AIC's bats went cold, as the team managed just one hit in the final half of the game, and Pace took advantage of a bases loaded error with two outs in the eighth to ultimately tack on five runs to earn the 9-1 win.
