HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons sped out to an early 7-3 lead, but AIC hung around through the middle of the set. With the Falcons up 13-9, AIC went on a run of nine out of 10 points, taking advantage of a string of five errors to go with four kills by four different players and an ace to earn an 18-14 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets held off a late Falcons counter-run of five kills on six points to win the set 25-21, as freshman Paola Soto-Burgos landed a kill and junior Ada Guilera Martinez aced the hosts with set point.
- With momentum on their side, the Yellow Jackets hammered the Falcons early in the second set; Soto-Burgos and Guilera Martinez started a 5-0 run with kills, and after Bentley snapped the streak, Soto-Burgos drove two more shots home to give AIC a 7-1 lead.
- Bentley never was able to close the gap in the set; midway through, AIC went on another run of seven out of eight points largely led by graduate student Andrea Serra-Rosa's three kills to go up 16-6.
- AIC's offense continued to shine, and with set point, sophomore Mai-Lani Hernandez slammed down the ball to give AIC a 25-14 set win and a 2-0 lead.
- The Falcons showed resilience with their backs against the wall, taking seven of the first eight points in the third set as Caitlin Wunder scored two kills and Ingrid Murphy aced AIC twice. Soto-Burgos responded with three consecutive kills, only to have the Falcons take four of the next five points on two kills and two more aces to get the team to an 11-5 lead.
- AIC chipped away at the lead, and with the Falcons up 14-10, the Yellow Jackets made their move. Serra-Rosa started a run with back-to-back kills, and Soto-Burgos and Guilera Martinez added a pair each as well as AIC took the next nine points and a 19-14 lead.
- The shell-shocked Falcons tried to hang on, but it was to no avail as the multi-pronged AIC attack led by Serra-Rosa and Soto-Burgos pushed their team closer to match point. Hernandez would ultimately be the finisher again, with a kill, a block alongside junior setter Naomi Eckert-Rivera, and the final kill off a pass from Eckert-Rivera to finish off the sweep of AIC's archrival with another 25-21 set win.
