HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Yellow Jackets won the toss and chose to receive. Starting at their own 36 the Yellow Jackets marched down to the St. Anselm 19 and rookie Joseph Caloiero made a 36-yard field goal to give AIC the lead.
  • Saint Anselm used seven plays to go 71 yards in a drive that ended with a 31-yard passing touchdown as they went ahead 7-3.
  • Under two and a half minutes were on the clock in the first frame when senior Fabian Thames picked off the Hawks and gave AIC the ball at the St. Anselm 22.
  • AIC took advantage of the turnover. It was 2nd-and-7 from the Hawks' eight when redshirt-senior Samad Davila found the endzone and gave AIC the 10-7 lead.
  • The Hawks had to punt on their next possession but forced a fumble on the play and retained the ball at their own 47. On 2nd-and-goal from the AIC 13 junior Terrell Wallace intercepted the Hawks' pass.
  • Saint Anselm took control of the ball with 8:32 remaining in the second quarter. Bobby Long caught a 33-yard pass from Drew Willoughby on the third play of the drive to put the Hawks up 14-10.
  • With 5:04 left in the third, the Hawks scored a touchdown on a 12-yard pass to extend their lead to 21-10.
  • With under three minutes remaining the Hawks lined up at the AIC 10-yard line in the Wildcat. Anthony Brown went to the right side and senior Isiah Tolbert forced a fumble at the five and ran it back for a 95-yard scoop and score to make it 21-16.
  • The Yellow Jackets failed to convert on the two-point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff, the Hawks were able to recover the onside kick and run out the clock.
