HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Yellow Jackets struck first. In the opening frame, senior Shawn Boston led the game off with a single through the left side and proceeded to steal second. On a fielder's choice by senior Matt Krause, Boston scampered over to third. Sophomore Cam Defeo hit it back to the pitcher, but Boston scored on the play.
- The Fighting Knights wasted no time at the plate as Byron Murray went deep to right center to lead off the bottom half of the inning. With runners on second and third, the home team took the lead on a ground out to third. In total, the Fighting Knights scored four runs in the inning.
- In the top of the second, redshirt sophomore Dalton Quinn singled to the pitcher and advanced to second on a passed ball during the at-bat by sophomore Brandon Gaul who advanced Quinn over to third on a sacrifice bunt. Junior Angel Mendez did his job of driving in the runner from third, his method of choice was a double to left field. Lynn scored two runs in their half of the frame to take the 6-2 lead.
- Consistency described AIC's offensive scoring in the first three innings. Boston struck out swinging, but the pitch was not contained by the catcher as he reached on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on another wild pitch by the home team before Krause hit a fly ball to right field that was deep enough for Boston to score after the catch.
- Trailing in the top of the sixth, Defeo led the Yellow Jackets off with a hard hit ground ball who could not corral the ball. He found himself at third after swiping second and advancing to third on a bad throw by the catcher. Gaul pushed him across on a fielder's choice to make it a 12-4 game.
- The seventh inning was the best offensively for the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Michael Cruz reached on a fielding error by the shortstop that allowed him to take second. After a fly out, Boston forced another shortstop error that gave the Yellow Jackets runners at the corners. Boston stole second before Krause hit another sacrifice fly that allowed Cruz to score and Boston to advance to third. While Defeo was at the plate, Boston stole home for the second AIC run of the inning. Defeo finished his at-bat by reaching second on an error by the left fielder. At that point, the Fighting Knights made a pitching change. Defeo stole third and junior Anthony Clark walked as Quinn stepped into the box. Quinn singled to third and drove in Defeo to make it 16-7.
