HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, senior Matt Costanza laid a bunt down the third base line and beat out the throw for a lead off hit. With one out, graduate student Andrew Ciacciarelli sent a 0-2 pitch to the shortstop who committed an error and allowed the Yellow Jackets to have runners on first and second. Sophomore Brandon Gaul moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Junior Angel Mendez sent the 2-1 pitch back up the middle that allowed Krause and Ciacciarelli to score.
  • With one out in the bottom of the third, senior Matt Krause singled up the middle and then proceeded to steal second base during sophomore Cam Defeo's at-bat. Defeo moved him over to third on a ground out to short. Krause later scored on a wild pitch.
  • Trying to keep the game close, the Clippers added a run in the next at-bat. The 3-2 lead did not remain for long. Ciacciarelli stood at second and Gaul at first when Mendez notched his second hit up the middle to score Ciacciarelli.
  • Concordia took advantage of an AIC error in the top of the fifth to score two runs and tie the game.
  • After two and a half innings of scoreless play, the Clippers took a one-run lead on a single to right with a runner 90-feet away.
  • Redshirt freshman Dalton Quinn led off the bottom of the frame with a double to center. Two hitters later, Gaul stepped into the box with one out and hit the eighth pitch of the at-bat to the second baseman which allowed Quinn to scamper to third before scoring on a wild pitch in the next at-bat.
  • The game was tied at five in the ninth as the Clippers used a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt to put a runner 180-feet from home with one out. AIC walked Joseph Impeduglia to bring up Jake Partridge. Partridge took the first pitch he saw towards short and forced an error that allowed the go ahead run to score.
  • The Yellow Jackets tried to get things going in the bottom ninth, but Noel Vasquez retired the side with three fly-outs.
