Baseball takes down Queens

FLUSHING, New York - The American International College baseball team defeated Queens College in nonconference action on Wednesday, April 24.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC got to the Queens starter early. Seniors Brendan Carter and Josh Alviles began the game with a pair of walks and junior Matt Krause smacked a double to left field, scoring both baserunners. Those three Yellow Jackets were the only batters Eloy Benson faced before getting pulled.
  • After two more walks from the Yellow Jackets, Krause scored AIC's third run of the inning on a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom of the first, Queens grabbed their first run, cutting the Yellow Jacket lead to two.
  • Aviles drove in sophomore Angel Mendez in the second inning, boosting thier lead back up to three.
  • The Knights made it a one run game, after an RBI double and a couple wild pitches in the bottom of the third.
  • Junior Matt Costanza added on another run for AIC, knocking in Carter from third to make it 5-3.
  • The Yellow Jackets tacked on two runs in the fifth and seventh inning, growing their lead to six. Queens responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but gradute student Eugene Quirk and Carter connected on an RBI double and single to help lift AIC to a 12-5 victory over Queens.

NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will finish their rained out game vs. Adelphi on Thursday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
  • The game will resume in the bottom of the second with Adlephi leading AIC 3-0.
