HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It was slow going in the entire first half, with just three goals between the squads. Kaelyn Oliver opened the scoring at the 14:14 mark on what was just the fifth shot on goal of the game for the teams.
- Five shots later, it was AIC getting on the board, as senior midfielder Mikayla Demanche netted a free-position bid at 20:45.
- AIC had the next two shots on target, but after a yellow card, it was the Purple Knights that scored, as Erin Mikson potted a man-up tally at 24:41.
- The Purple Knights doubled their advantage at 3:16 of the second half, but Bates got her side back into it with a free-position strike at 7:40 and then tied the game on AIC's first extra-man opportunity at 10:14.
- Both teams scored a fourth goal quickly, with Kate Martin hitting the net on a free position just 13 seconds after Bates' goal, but sophomore midfielder Brianna O'Brien won the subsequent draw and buried a tally of her own 10 seconds after that to make it 4-4.
- Senior defender Lauren Witherspoon put AIC ahead for the first time at 13:24 of the period, but 3:01 later, on another man-up, the Purple Knights evened the score as Alex Vincent put a shot home.
- With time ticking down, AIC jumped out to a 7-5 edge as Demanche scored at 23:15 and sophomore attacker Emilee Giacondino added another just 27 seconds later.
- The Purple Knights would not go quietly, clawing back to even the game as Martin and Oliver both converted free-position opportunities, the latter with just 51 seconds to go in regulation, forcing overtime.
- Both teams had one shot on goal in the first three-minute overtime, as Demanche was denied on a free-position bid and Davis stuffed Waystack on a shot.
- Davis made three more saves in the second three-minute session, sandwiching a save by Victoria Putnam at the other end on Demanche.
- The third three-minute overtime was all AIC, as O'Brien won the opening draw and tried to strike; though her shot went wide, AIC retained possession, and Bates cut behind the cage before feeding Coulter at the front of the net for the deciding tally 6:36 past the end of regulation.
