Baseball prepares for busy week in Florida

The American International College baseball team continues its Florida road trip this week against Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, Molloy College, Post University and Southern New Hampshire University.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • The Yellow Jackets last took on Stonehill College on Sunday, March 10 in Boca Raton, Fla.
  • AIC struck first with three runs in the first inning, but the Skyhawks responded in the bottom half of the first with three runs of their own.
  • AIC grew its lead to five after scoring twice in the second and adding three runs in the third inning.
  • It was not until the sixth inning until the Skyhawks cut into the deficit, making it a four-run Yellow Jackets lead.
  • In the following inning, Stonehill tied the game at eight when senior Patrick Downey delivered a massive three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Skyhawks had all the momentum, defeating the Yellow Jackets 11-10.
  • Barry and Molloy recently faced off on Saturday, March 9. Barry defeated Molloy 8-1 in Miami Shores, Fla.
  • Nova Southeastern took on Lander University on Saturday, March 9. Nova scored five runs in the top of the 10th to take down Lander 7-2.
  • Post fell to the University of Charleston 6-3 on Monday, February 25 to cap off its season opener.
  • Southern New Hampshire defeated Caldwell University 9-2 on Sunday, March 10 in Lantana, Fla.

LAST TIME THEY MET:
SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS:
  • Barry is currently 14-4 overall, winning 10 games and only losing two games In Miami Shores, Fla.
  • Half of the Buccaneers losses came against then No. 18 Nova Southeastern in a three-game series. Barry defeated Nova Southeastern 7-4 in game one of their three-game road series.
  • Junior Chris Cabrera leads the Buccaneers in batting average and RBI's hitting .452 with 19 runs batted in.

SCOUTING THE SHARKS:
  • Nova Southeastern is currently ranked No. 23 in the nation, with a 13-6 record overall.
  • At home, the Sharks are nearly unbeaten, winning seven games out of eight. The Sharks only loss came to Barry University.
  • Nova Southeastern is coming off a three-game sweep against Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.
  • Senior pitcher Brock Minich has been lights out on the mound pitching 12.1 innings with a 0.73 ERA.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • After starting off their season 0-5, Molloy captured their first win of the season against Adelphi in a 12-5 finish.
  • Before Molloy traveled to Florida, the team competed in four games in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Lions lost all four games, two to Northeast-10 opponents.
  • On Tuesday, March 12, the Lions will take on SNHU in Miami Shores, Fla.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
  • Post is currently 1-2 in its short season.
  • Their lone series was against the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia. The Eagles took game one in a 23-13 football finish, but Post fell in the last two games, 7-3 and 6-3, in the three-game series.
  • Sophomore catcher Miguel De Los Santos is off to a hot start, batting .500 in his first three games this season.

SCOUTING THE PENMEN:
  • SNHU is currently 9-3 this season, competing in all but three games outside New England.
  • The Penmen began their season in California, falling to Cal State San B'dino in a three-game series 2-1.
  • Next up, SNHU traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, winning all four games.
  • After traveling from California to South Carolina, back to New England and now down to Florida in a one-month span, SNHU will take on AIC winning eight out of nine games in a neutral playing field.
