Baseball sweeps Bloomfield down in Florida

LANTANA, Florida - The American International College baseball team swept Bloomfield College 3-0 this weekend in Lantana, Florida on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):
  • On Friday, March 8, AIC began a three-game series vs. Bloomfield College in Lantana, Florida.
  • The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, after junior Matt Krause knocked in junior Matt Costanza and senior Josh Aviles in the third inning from a line drive single.
  • Redshirt-junior Andrew Ciacciarelli added on to the lead shortly after, scoring Krause to lead 3-0 in the third inning.
  • In the sixth, senior Matt Elliott found the gap in center field for a RBI triple, extending their lead to four.
  • AIC added on four more runs in the seventh, leading Bloomfield 8-0 after seven innings.
  • The Bears ended AIC's shutout in the 8th inning, but AIC took game one of the three game series, 9-2.
  • Sophomore Joe Kemlage was lights out, pitching eight innings with six strike-outs and only one earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):
  • On Saturday, March 9, the Yellow Jackets competed in game one of their doubleheader vs. Bloomfield College.
  • After four and a half scoreless innings, AIC scored first on four consecutive walks.
  • In their next at-bat, sophomore Anthony Clark forced the fifth-straight walk, scoring one more Yellow Jacket.
  • Redshirt-senior Reed Phillips then grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Krause to score, extending their lead to three after five innings.
  • Bloomfield added on one more run, but the Yellow Jackets took game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 3-1.
  • Redshirt-junior Joe Pepe went seven innings without allowing a run in his start.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME THREE):
  • At 2 p.m. on Saturday, AIC concluded their doubleheader as they took on Bloomfield, leading 2-0 in their weekend series.
  • In the first inning on action, Ciacciarelli forces a walk, scoring Aviles to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Later that inning, Elliot hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Costanza to tag up from third and score the second run of the ball game.
  • With the Yellow Jackets up 3-0 in the fifth, the Bears scored a couple runs to cut the AIC lead to one run, but redshirt-senior Nick Kennedy was impressive on the mound, securing the win for the Yellow Jackets, 3-2.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • On Saturday's doubleheader, Pepe and Kennedy combined for 13.1 innings pitched without allowing an earned run.

  • The Yellow Jackets will take the field tomorrow morning on Sunday, March 10 as they take on NE10 opponent Stonehill College at 11 a.m.
