HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Neither team had much offense in the first half; Adelphi had a chance on a corner by Alexsis Weiser in the 35th minute, but sophomore Tamra Zippin was able to handle it.
  • In the second frame, AIC had the first great opportunity in the 75th minute, as freshman Cassidy McMahon got free behind the defense, but Sarah Hofmeier stopped the tough-angle shot.
  • In the 83rd minute, AIC nearly took the lead, as junior Makayla Bigard set up redshirt sophomore Josefine Stendahl on a two-on-one breakout, and Stendahl beat Hofmeier, but her shot rang off the right post and came out.
  • The game passed the 90 minute mark with no goals, necessitating overtime. The first extra session likewise passed without any goals, and though Adelphi had a chance by Erica Bleimeyer go high early in the second overtime, neither team was able to win the game.
  • With the official result as a draw, the teams took penalties to decide the game. Only one shooter failed; in the second round, Zippin made a diving stop on Mia York. All of AIC's shots hit the net, with senior Paige Medeiros finishing the fifth round with a shot into the upper right corner to keep the Yellow Jackets playing into the semifinal.
