SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's basketball team fell to Assumption College, 73-62, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Wednesday, January 23 at Butova Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Greyhounds started the game with the first two points. Freshman guard Isaiah Salter responded with a three-pointer, giving AIC its first lead, 3-2. The AIC lead would not last long, as Assumption proceeded to go on a 12-0 run to lead the Yellow Jackets 14-3 with 14:26 remaining in the half. At the 12:17 mark, the Greyhounds lead grew to 14 points.
AIC shortened the gap to 29-20 with 3:51 left in the half after a three-pointer from sophomore guard Xion Golding. The following possession, Assumption's Patrick Fleming knocked down a jumper to get the lead back up to double digits. The Yellow Jackets then closed the half out strong, going on a 7-0 run to trail just 31-27 at the half.
Sophomore guard Adonis Williams scored for AIC on the first possession of the second half, but the Greyhounds responded with 10 unanswered points, extending their lead to 12 points with 17:21 remaining. Halfway through the final half, Assumption maintained a 55-45 lead. The following three possessions for AIC, Williams converted on a pair of layups and Golding scored a close range basket as well, leaving the Yellow Jackets trailing Assumption just 55-51 with 8:16 remaining.
The four-point deficit was the closest AIC came to tying the game down the stretch, as the Yellow Jackets fell to Assumption 73-62.
BUZZWORTHY:
The Yellow Jackets only played with six men in the game, the fewest of any game this season.
Golding's 19 points tied his season high; he had 19 in AIC's game against Holy Family on November 11.
