Team effort lifts men's basketball over SNHU

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak as the Yellow Jackets beat Southern New Hampshire University 79-72 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, January 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a Penmen turnover to start the game, freshman guard Isaiah Salter hit a three in transition to give AIC a 3-0 lead early on. The Yellow Jackets made their first big run of the game as they went on a 13-0 run that included back-to-back Salter three as well as three and a free throw by sophomore guard Xion Golding.
  • The Penmen broke the AIC run with a lay up to make it 23-15, but the Yellow Jackets did not slow down, landing more shots in a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 22. At the break, the Yellow Jackets had a 43-26 advantage.
  • The Yellow Jackets retained their 22-point lead at the 13:30 mark, ahead 58-36. SNHU then started to chip away at the Yellow Jacket lead as the Penmen made it a 67-59 game with just under five minutes left to play. AIC answered by expanding the lead to 13.
  • The Penmen did not hang their heads, as they cut the Yellow Jackets advantage to five twice, but it was not enough as the Yellow Jackets took the game 79-72.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • The Yellow Jackets shot an impressive 50.9 percent from the field. They improved to 4-0 this season when they shoot 50 percent or better.
  • The Yellow Jackets also moved to 6-0 when they lead at the half.
  • AIC improves to 7-2 this season when leading with five minutes left. The Yellow Jackets learned how to keep their lead with five minutes left in the game, as after dropping their first two, they have won seven straight.
