HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Merrimack carried the play early on, and scored at the 10:20 mark on a shot by Colleen Ellis. The Warriors would add two more before the break, with a goal each from Isabelle Duseau and Mary McNeil.
  • In spite of the score, Stone was a wall in the net, turning aside 10 chances in the opening stanza.
  • Merrimack added three more goals in the second half, with Duseau and McNeil tallying alongside Lindsey Nolte.
  • Stone had seven saves in the second frame.
  • Midway through the second, Davis recorded a defensive save, giving her an AIC-record 21 on her career, breaking the tie with Katrina Heterbring '11 for the most in program history.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "The score of the game definitely does not reflect the effort that we put in tonight," said head coach Rhonwen Peters after the game, adding that "If we continue to play with this type of intensity as we move into conference play, we will be competing for a spot in the NE10 playoffs come November."

PLAYER'S CORNER:
  • "It means a lot to leave something behind for the classes that come after me, but at the same time it's a total team effort and we're working to be better, whether a ball ends up on my stick or someone else's. It's nice to finally see everything pay off and everything fall into place, and given a little more time, I think a lot more things will fall into place, not just for me, but for the team as a whole," Davis said of breaking the defensive saves record.
  • "I believe that even though the score wasn't what we wanted, we kept up our intensity the whole time. The effort, intensity, and attitude was 100 percent, and that's how we have to play throughout the whole season. We can learn from this game and if we play this way and fix our mistakes, we'll win games," Stone said of the match.
NEXT UP:
  • AIC returns to action Saturday, September 15 at 1 p.m. when the Yellow Jackets battle Mercy College in a nonconference tilt in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
