HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior defender Jessica Fontana started the night off right for AIC by opening the scoring at 2:11, but New Haven scored twice in a span of 42 seconds to take a 2-1 lead just shy of the fifth minute of play. The lead lasted until senior attacker Brittany Hutchison snapped home her team-best 23rd of the campaign at 8:30 to level the score.
  • New Haven went on a 3-0 run over a 3:57 span to build up a 5-2 edge by the midpoint of the half; the Yellow Jackets countered the run with a goal from junior midfielder Mikayla Demanche, who scored at 18:07 on a quick pass from freshman attacker Reagan Nichols to bring AIC within two. The teams then traded goals, with freshman attacker Brianna O'Brien cutting the lead to 6-4 at 22:00, but New Haven scored the final four of the half to take a 10-4 lead into the locker room.
  • AIC came out of the break flat and New Haven took full advantage, scoring just 15 seconds into the frame and six times total in the first twelve minutes to lead by a score of 16-4. Caroline Maher, who scored the last two of the first half, netted a natural hat trick as part of the run.
  • AIC scored two in a row, with junior attacker Mary Bates burying a free-position bid at 13:20 and O'Brien finishing from Fontana at 15:31, cutting the lead to 16-6. After a New Haven goal, O'Brien then finished her hat trick off with a strong shot at 19:08. Down the stretch, New Haven scored twice more, and Bates scored AIC's last goal at 25:15 for the 19-8 final.
