Junior center fielder Josh Aviles had a two-out single, followed by a walk issued to junior shortstop Brendan Carter. Sophomore pitcher Matt Costanza then hit an RBI double that pushed Aviles home and Carter to third. Sophomore right fielder Matt Krause added a two-RBI single that brought AIC within three.
  • The Yellow Jackets added one more in the bottom of the third, when freshman catcher Anthony Clark led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Clark then scored on a groundout to make the score 6-4.
  • But Merrimack then added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, and put the game out of reach with four more runs in the top of the eighth.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • Costanza extended his hitting streak to seven games. Krause is additionally now on a six-game hitting streak, and has had two hits in back-to-back games.
  • Merrimack has gotten the best of AIC in recent years, as the Yellow Jackets have not beaten the Warriors since 2014.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "We did a good job early in the game battling on," said AIC baseball head coach Nick Callini. "We got down 6-0, and at that point put some quality at-bats together, cut into their lead, got it to where it was 6-4 and got right back into the game. But you just can't play that way and make mistakes and let them continue to expand a lead and expect to fight back."
  • "That's the way baseball is," Callini added about his approach to the upcoming weekend. "It's a very humbling game. We come off a weekend where we were really excited and played well, and come back to this. This game's over. There's nothing we can do about changing the outcome of it, but what we can do is analyze, see what corrections we can make, and they're going to come out with the same expectation next game when we head up to Franklin Pierce on Saturday that we're going to come out and play quality baseball and come out with a win. You have to have short-term memory in this game. You have to look back at it, see what you can learn from it, and move on."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC hits the road for the next five games, starting with a doubleheader at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, April 7 in Rindge, New Hampshire.
