HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One:
- The Ravens got on the board first in the second inning, though the Yellow Jackets experienced minimal damage despite a bases-loaded opportunity for Franklin Pierce. The Ravens scored just one run in the frame, when a dribbler up the third-base line was touched by AIC just before it went foul, giving Franklin Pierce a 1-0 advantage early.
- Franklin Pierce starting pitcher Evan Glew held the Yellow Jackets scoreless through the first six innings, and his team got out to a four-run advantage by the time AIC was able to score in the seventh inning.
- AIC started off the seventh with two baserunners off a single from redshirt sophomore Andrew Ciacciarelli and a walk issued to freshman third baseman Will Johnson. Glew exited the game right after that, but the Yellow Jackets continued to apply pressure, with freshman second baseman Angel Mendez hitting a single through the right side. Ciacciarelli would score when the right fielder misfielded the ball, cutting the Ravens' lead to 4-1.
- After back-to-back strikeouts, sophomore designated hitter Matt Costanza put another run on the board for the Yellow Jackets with an RBI single that scored Johnson.
- However, despite two shutout innings from sophomore relief pitcher James Flahive, AIC could not thwart Franklin Pierce reliever Anthony Matarazzo further, as he notched six strikeouts over the remainder of the game, holding the score at 4-2.
Game Two:
- The Ravens put up three unearned runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead.
- AIC managed just one hit off Franklin Pierce in the game, a double in the fourth inning by redshirt junior left fielder Reed Phillips. Ciacciarelli was hit by a pitch and junior center fielder Matthew Elliott would walk to load the bases, but the Yellow Jackets could garner no runs in their best opportunity of the game.
- The Ravens notched one run in the fourth, and later dropped six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-0 lead. Franklin Pierce had one more in the eighth to push the lead to 11.
BUZZWORTHY:
- Costanza extended his hitting streak to eight games in the first game, but snapped that span in the second contest.
- With two shutout innings in the first contest, Flahive's season ERA has dropped to 2.76 in 16.1 innings of relief. He has not allowed more than one earned run in all but one appearance this season.
