HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After three scoreless innings, the Owls pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth inning to have the 2-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on first and third with one out, redshirt sophomore first baseman Andrew Ciacciarelli singled to make it 2-1.
  • The Yellow Jackets would earn their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Another Ciacciarelli single would score sophomore designated hitter Matt Costanza and tie the game up. In the next at-bat, freshman catcher Will Johnson secured a sacrifice bunt to score Krause and give AIC the 3-2 lead.
  • In the top of the ninth, Southern Connecticut would score to tie the game up going into the bottom of the ninth. Junior shortstop Brendan Carter hit a one-out single to left field, and junior center fielder Josh Aviles would then single to right center, allowing Carter to advance to third base. After a pitching change from the Owls, they decided to intentionally walk Costanza to load the bases for Krause. The sophomore would single to left field to clear the Yellow Jackets' bench with excitement and give AIC the 4-3 win on Senior Day.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • Krause is now on an eight-game hitting streak. With a three-hit game on Sunday, Krause has had three or more hits in a game three times this season.
  • Aviles has now had multi-hit games seven times this season.
  • Coscio recorded wins in back-to-back games and two wins in less than 24 hours; Sunday's game marked the second nine-inning game of his career.
  • AIC celebrated Senior Day prior to Sunday's game, recognizing Coscio, second baseman Trent Dillon and team manager Jose Hernandez.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "It's awesome," said AIC baseball coach Nick Callini following the walkoff victory. "As a coach, you do everything in your power to put your guys in the best position to succeed, and it's a process that you start with them as you recruit them and watch them grow as they're here. So to see them have that success and the jubilation - it's just awesome. And then to have it on Senior Day, with your senior on the mound, getting two wins in two days, you just can't be happier. Really, it's like a fatherly moment, to be quite honest."
  • "I just can't say enough about him," Callini said about Coscio. "With everything he's been through in the six years he's been here, to stick it out and really lead this team - this goes back to the spot start that he had the complete-game win [against Pace on April 14], when we were completely battered and in kind of a tough spot, and your captain steps up for you. For him to come back today, where again, we're kind of in a tough spot and backs against the wall, he just goes out there and leads the way. He's such a great, great kid."
  • "We were able to start Trent on Senior Day, and he went out and made some good plays for us," Callini added about Dillon. "Just to get those opportunities and to have him be able to be a big part of this win is great."

PLAYERS' CORNER:
  • "It was pretty big," Coscio said. "It was nice to have my whole family here, this was actually the first game my whole family has been to at once, so it was nice to have them there. But more importantly, just to get the win, and keep our playoff push alive - that's the most important thing."
  • "It means the world," Krause said. "This is Coscio's last time on this field, and I'm happy we were able to get a W for him. That means a lot definitely to him and to us. He pitched a heck of a game, and I'm glad we were able to get it for him in the ninth."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC will look to keep its playoff hopes alive with a road series at Le Moyne College on May 4 and 5.
