Men's lacrosse battles hard in loss at No. 2 Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Massachusetts - The American International College men's lacrosse team put up a tough fight but fell 17-4 to No. 2 Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 Conference battle on Saturday, March 31.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, striking six times in the first, all in a span of 5:58; Charlie Bertrand had a hat trick while Christian Thomas set up three of the goals.
  • AIC was first on the board in the second; redshirt freshman attacker Matt Deloria took advantage of a miscommunication by Merrimack's defense to steal the ball and score in an empty net at 2:53. However, the Warriors responded just nine seconds later, and started a nine-goal run that ended midway through the third quarter.
  • Freshman attacker Rawill Herrera extended his team lead by scoring back-to-back goals in 19 seconds late in the third; the first was an unassisted extra-man opportunity goal, while the second was set up by his classmate, Liam Flanagan. However, the Warriors would score in the final minute of the quarter and the first minute of the fourth to take a 17-3 lead. Junior midfielder Quinn Caesar scored the last goal of the game for AIC at 9:06 of the final frame for the 17-4 final.
