HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bucs scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Yellow Jackets answered quickly, adding three runs of their own in the top of the second. Junior center fielder Josh Aviles reached on a fielder's choice, scoring redshirt sophomore first baseman Andrew Ciacciarelli; sophomore third baseman Matt Costanza then had a two-RBI single to bring in Aviles and sophomore designated hitter Brendan LaVallee to tie up the score at 3-3.
  • However, that tie would be short-lived, as an RBI single from Jonathan Quintana gave Barry a 4-3 lead in the top of the second.
  • Sophomore pitcher James Flahive allowed just one earned run over the next four innings; however, Barry put two runs on the board off an RBI double from Alexis Monge in the fifth and an unearned run scored by Justin Lamazares in the next inning to give the Bucs a 6-3 lead after six.
  • Redshirt junior left fielder Reed Phillips had an RBI single to bring Costanza across the plate and put AIC within 6-4, but Barry added four more runs over the next two innings to go up 10-4.
  • AIC attempted to chip away at the lead at the top of the ninth, with Costanza notching an RBI single and Phillips later driving in a run off a sacrifice fly. However, AIC's rally fell short, with the Yellow Jackets only coming within 10-6.

BUZZWORTHY:
