LAST TIME OUT:
  • The Yellow Jackets took on Bridgeport and overcame a shaky first half to win 13-10 on March 9.
  • Junior attacker Mary Bates scorched the opposition, netting six goals, while redshirt sophomore defender Allison Roy broke a college record by causing seven turnovers.
  • Junior midfielder Mikayla Demanche and senior attacker Brittany Hutchison each also recorded hat tricks.
  • Saint Leo got its first taste of the Northeast-10 Conference in three years and its first loss of the season as the Assumption Greyhounds defeated the Lions 21-12 on March 9.
  • It was an even game for the first 45 minutes as Sarah Pierson cut Saint Leo's deficit to 13-12 at the 14:45 mark of the second half, but the visiting Greyhounds scored the last eight goals of the game over the final 10:27 for the win.
  • Delaney Chrisco scored five times to lead the Lions offense.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • Saint Leo is certainly not lacking offense; Leslie Ferguson leads the team with 26 goals in seven games, with Kaylah Walstad and Chrisco right behind her at 20.
  • Walstad might be the team's most dangerous player; she leads Saint Leo in assists with nine and ground balls with 20, and is second in caused turnovers with 12.
  • An area of concern might be in Saint Leo's net; starting goalkeeper Erin Davis left the team's game against Assumption midway through the first half. Backup Rebecca Halley took over in that game, making her fifth appearance; she has a .386 SV% in 139:44 of play, saving 17 of 44 shots faced.
GIVE ME THE BALL:
  • At 15.6 caused turnovers per game, the Yellow Jackets rank sixth in the nation in forced takeaways.
  • Roy's success has been a big part of that; her six against Stonehill and seven against Bridgeport are tied for ninth and sixth most, respectively, in a game so far this season.
  • The team is also 12th nationally in ground balls per game at 25.8.
UNFAMILIAR OPPONENT:
  • This will be just the fifth time the Lions have faced a Northeast-10 Conference team in the seven seasons of existence for the program. They have previously matched up against Adelphi, Southern New Hampshire, and Merrimack in addition to this season's battle with Assumption, and are 2-2 overall so far in those games.
  • It has been over three years since any teams from AIC and Saint Leo have faced off; the Lions swept the Yellow Jackets softball team in a doubleheader on March 11, 2015, in the last meeting of any kind between the schools.
NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets return to Massachusetts and to NE10 play with a Saint Patrick's Day matchup at Bentley slated to start at noon on March 17.
