HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bentley dominated in the early going, securing a 6-0 lead before the game was even six minutes old;
- AIC turned the tide with three straight goals. Senior attacker Brittany Hutchison netted the opening score for the Yellow Jackets at 5:58 from junior midfielder Mikayla Demanche, and Demanche scored the next two for AIC to cut the deficit to 6-3. The first of those two goals was scored man-down.
- Bentley built the lead back up, scoring four of the next five goals, with AIC's lone marker set up by Demanche and scored by rookie attacker Reagan Nichols.
- Freshman midfielder Devin Coulter scored her first of the game with just over five minutes left in the frame, but MaryKate Staines had a response for an 11-5 Bentley lead at the break.
- Bentley built up the lead in the second half with five goals in the first 10 minutes to AIC's three; Demanche had two, while Coulter netted the other from junior attacker Mary Bates.
- Down 17-8 with 16:00 left in regulation, AIC scored the final four of the game; Nichols set up Hutchison at 21:08, then graduate midfielder Erica McLean did the same for Hutchison just 25 seconds later. Sophomore defender Allison Roy then joined in the scoring by making a run from the restraining line at AIC's end of the field past a few defenders and fired home her first collegiate goal at 26:32. Freshman attacker Emilee Giacondino closed out the scoring with a free-position goal in the final minute for the 17-12 score.
DEFENSE TO OFFENSE:
- Roy's goal was the third scored this season by an AIC defender; senior Jessica Fontana netted two against Queens.
- In all, Roy, Fontana and sophomore Jocylyn Deome have tallied six points from the defensive side of the ball, with Fontana notching two goals and two assists total and Deome contributing an assist, along with Roy's goal.
HATS OFF:
- Demanche's four goals marked her third straight hat trick. Bates also has three on the year, while Hutchison's hat trick gives her the team lead with four.
- At least one hat trick has been recorded by an AIC player in all seven games so far in 2018, and 14overall.
- The team is well ahead of the pace it set last year, which featured 23 hat tricks, including a team-best nine by now-assistant coach Riley Brennan '17.
