PLEASANTVILLE, New York The American International College men's basketball team fell 66-59 in a back-and-forth affair against Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Wednesday, November 28.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Pace opened the scoring with a jumper and then a three to take an early 5-0 lead. Sophomore guard Jordan Vidal hit a three of his own to put AIC on the board, but the Setters hit another long shot to regain the five-point edge. Sophomore guard Xion Golding hit a layup, and junior forward Zekiah Owens followed that with an old-school three to tie the score.
• After Pace took an 11-8 lead, rookie guard Isaiah Salter drained a three to tie the game again, and then set up senior forward Andrew Anderson for a lay-in to give AIC its first lead of the game just shy of the five-minute mark.
• The play went back-and-forth through the middle of the half, with Salter hitting another three just shy of the 12-minute mark to put AIC ahead 18-17. The teams continued to trade baskets through the period, with Greg Poleon draining a three with just over 3:30 remaining in the half to put his team up 26-22. Salter drilled a three to tie the game 27-27 late, and Pace missed on its last bid of the half to send the game into the break at that score.
• Neither team could find a bucket on their first possession of the second half, but Pace hit on each of its next three possessions to take a 33-27 lead 3:37 into the half, leading head coach Andy Burkholder to take a full timeout. The stoppage blunted Pace's momentum, but it took until the 5:08 mark of the frame before AIC scored, as redshirt freshman forward Bane Terzic hit a runner in the lane. However, the Yellow Jackets sparked from there, tying the game with baskets on each of the next two possessions to make it 33-33 with 13:57 remaining.
• The cold shooting continued for both teams from that point, but a three from Austin Gilbertson gave Pace a 37-33 lead with 11:45 to play. Out of the timeout, Salter sank another three to cut the deficit to one, and Terzic dunked after a steal to put AIC ahead just before the midpoint of the half. He then hit a three from the right corner to expand the lead to 41-37.
• Pace went on a five-point run to retake the lead, with Gilbertson hitting a three from the top of the key for the 42-41 edge, but Terzic connected on another three in response. The Setters put together another run to take a 50-44 lead before a Terzic dunk with 5:34 left in regulation cut into the advantage.
• Terzic's red-hot pace continued late, as he drained a three to bring AIC to within 51-49, but Pace was able to re-extend the lead to 54-49 after a free throw with 3:38 left. The teams traded points, with Owens sinking a pair of free throws to bring AIC within three with 1:53 left, but Gilbertson beat the shot clock with a three to put the hosts up 60-54. Sophomore guard Adonis Williams completed an and-one, only to see Pace hit a shot off of an offensive rebound to build the lead back to five, and the Setters hit free throws down the stretch to earn the victory, taking the game by the score of 66-59.
