HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, starting with a goal from sophomore forward Josip Validzicoffassists by redshirt freshman back David Harper and sophomore back Stefan Balan in the third minute. Eleven minutes later, junior forward Felipe Novelini pushed the lead to a pair of goals.
  • The Greyhounds stormed back, however, with Kevin Hernandez adding goals in the 17th and 26th minutes to knot things up at two goals apiece.
  • AIC regained the lead in the 70th minute, as Validzic scored again off an assist by Novelini to go ahead 3-2.
  • In the 79th minute, Jason Lages converted on a penalty kick to even the score again at three.
  • Off a corner kick from graduate student midfielder Jeremy Fricker, Hernandez notched the game-winner with 1:23 remaining in double overtime.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • On Validzic's goal in the third minute, both Harper and Balan notched their first collegiate points on the play.
  • This is the second consecutive AIC game that has gone to overtime, and the third this year.
  • This game marked Assumption's first loss at home this season.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "Today was a massive test for the guys psychologically," said AIC men's soccer head coach Luke Perry. "Coming off a very difficult overtime game three days ago against SNHU caused us to have lapses of concentration and lose the lead twice. However, to then go to overtime and win the game, shows how far we have come as a team mentally. I'm very pleased with the much-deserved result."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC continues its road swing with a visit to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, October 13.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
