Field hockey strikes first but drops NE10 battle to Bentley

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team lost a wild battle against Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference play, falling 4-2 on Tuesday, October 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets struck early for the second time in three games, taking advantage of a penalty corner to tally at 6:58 as junior back Chelsea Davis launched a shot from the top of the circle from graduate midfielder Megan Stewardson's insert to score her third of the year.
  • The Falcons were able to level the score late in the half, as Rachel Crowley deflected a long pass from Sam Simione at 32:07 to tie the game.
  • In the second half, Bentley struck for two quick goals, as Sam Pavano scored at 38:59 for a 2-1 lead and Crowley added a second at 42:20 to run the edge to 3-1.
  • AIC cut the deficit back to one on another corner, with senior back Nichara Condo inserting to the left side for junior midfielder Jenny Holmquist; the Maine native ripped a shot home for her second of the year at 54:08.
  • Bentley would hang on from there, with Tess Anderson scoring at 67:40 to seal the 4-2 win.

GETTING THERE:
  • Davis's third goal of the year matches her career high and the team's individual high from last season; in 2017, she and Holmquist each scored three times to lead the team.

  • The field hockey team opens up Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 12 at 7 p.m. when the Yellow Jackets host in-state rival Assumption College for an NE10 showdown.
