HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Assumption opened the scoring at 16:49 as Jennifer Beardsley snuck a ball through sophomore goalkeeper Madi Dube's pads on a pass from Lucy Malia.
  • Beardsley nearly made it 2-0 late in the half, but Dube made the save on the initial shot and then junior back Chelsea Davis made a defensive save on the second bid with just under six minutes to play in the frame.
  • Early out of the break, Assumption had a corner and rapidly fired three shots, but Dube was able to turn them all aside to keep her team in the game.
  • AIC tied the game on a penalty corner at the 45:24 mark; after senior back Nichara Condo's initial insert bounced past Davis at the top, a pass across came to senior back Meghan Brock; Brock pushed it forward to junior forward Jenny Holmquist, who found Condo on the far post to sting the ball through the pads of Sarah Bodzinski with her first of the year.
  • Assumption regained the lead on a goal by Deirdre Burchill at 55:41, as she tipped in a pass on the left post from Kolby Burger across from the top of the right side of the circle.
  • The Greyhounds extended the lead as Malia scored on a penalty stroke at 64:18.
  • After the penalty, AIC elected to pull Dube for an extra attacker, with Davis playing as a kicking back; Burchill was able to seal the score with an empty-net tally at 69:19.

DAVIS BREAKS NE10 RECORD:
  • Davis's defensive save gives her 27 for her career, breaking the deadlock she had had with Adelphi's Brianna Rubenstein, who had previously held the conference's record with 26 since the 2014 season.
  • Davis now stands alone in second place all-time in NCAA Division II's history for defensive saves, behind Danielle Jones of Mercy, who owns the current record with 29. Jones, who played from 2011-14, was teammates with current AIC assistant coach Olivia Kelly.

DUBE SHINES IN START:
  • Making just her second career start, Dube was strong; she turned aside 11 shots, more than five times the number she had in her two prior appearances.
  • "Madi played well in net," said head coach Rhonwen Peters, noting that "she made some key saves and stepped up to the occasion."
  • "Once I got on the field, it felt like I was homeit felt so comfortable to be there, even though it's not a position that I'm used to. I just knew that I needed to play as strong as I could for the name on my jersey and all of my teammates," Dube said of making the start and her performance.

NEXT UP:
  • AIC breaks from home action to visit Southern New Hampshire University next. The battle at Penmen Stadium commences at 6 p.m. on October 17.
