Chargers beat volleyball in NE10 home opener

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College volleyball team hosted the University of New Haven for a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday, September 23, and the Yellow Jackets ended up losing by a final score of 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets started off on a 4-0 run in the first set, but the Chargers stuck around and eventually took a 13-12 lead. AIC hung around until 14-14 when UNH pulled away to 19-15, and then never looked back as they won the first set 25-20
  • The second set was a neck-and-neck battle as neither team ever achieved a lead greater than two AIC 2-0 and UNH 12-10 until UNH made it 17-14 after an AIC timeout. The Yellow Jackets were buzzing after that though and went up 22-19 and went on win the set 25-23.
  • After AIC scored the first point of the third set, UNH went on an 8-0 run and never looked back as they won the third set by a convincing score of 25-10.
  • AIC left it all out there in the fourth set and pushed UNH as hard as they could. The Chargers never lead by more than two until the 20-17 mark, and then AIC just ran out of gas as UNH was able to close to a 25-22 victory, and win the game 3-1.
GAME NOTES:
  • Rivera is now just 150 digs away from becoming the career leader in digs in program history.
  • Kopren has recorded a double-double in seven of her last 10 matches.
NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will travel to Saint Anselm on Saturday, September 30th. They will take on the Hawks at 11 a.m. before playing LIU post at 1 p.m.
