Peters, field hockey earn first win

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team earned its first win of the season, toppling the New Haven Chargers, 7-1, at Abdow Field on Saturday, September 23.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets scored two quick first-half goals, with Devyn O'Connor netting the opening tally at 6:06 and Meghan Brock tipping a Paige Montague shot home at 10:14.
  • In the second half, the offense erupted as Jenny Holmquist and Chelsea Davis scored inside the first five minutes; Georgia Barnes added a goal and Holmquist scored a second before the 50-minute mark to put AIC up 6-0.
  • New Haven broke through in the 63rd minute, with Maecy Chlebowski scoring the first goal in Chargers' program history at 62:55.
  • On a penalty corner just 38 seconds later, AIC avenged the goal, as Leclerc finished a play set up by Payton Montague and Nichara Condo.

  • "Getting my first career win on Abdow Field is such an awesome feeling," head coach Rhonwen Peters said after the game. "I am so proud of the way the team played today. It was a total team effort and I know we will keep building on this performance."

  • "Everyone played like a team and not as individualsand continued to play tough throughout the whole fieldwhich led us to scoring opportunities which we capitalized on," Holmquist said.
