SLIPPERY ROCK, Pennsylvania The American International College field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Slippery Rock in the season opener for both teams on Saturday, September 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at 16:21 as Katie Lombardozzi put back a Chelsea Davis chance for the team's first goal of the year.
- Slippery Rock scored twice in the final five minutes, with Ulrich tying the game and Martin putting The Rock in the lead; a Davis defensive save at the buzzer kept the deficit to 2-1.
- Alexis Torosian stopped a penalty stroke to keep the Jackets in the game early in the second half.
- Ulrich struck again at 51:33 and Wolfe scored at 58:38 for the 4-1 final.
GAME NOTES:
- The Rock are coached by former Yellow Jackets head coach Julie (Zoolkoski) Swiney, who recruited current head coach Rhonwen Peters and coached her for her first three seasons.
- The Yellow Jackets and The Rock have faced off on opening weekend in eight of the last nine seasons; SRU has a 5-3 record against AIC in those games.
- Davis's ninth career defensive save breaks the tie she was in for fourth all-time in AIC history in the category; her next one will tie her with Jaimie Plamondon '11 in third at 10.

- "We started out very strong," Peters said. "I was very pleased with our first half.We scored first and set the tone, and that's something we've really been working on. Now we just need to string two halves of solid hockey together."
