HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC generated the better quantity of chances in the first twenty minutes and it paid off as Katie Lombardozzi's insert on a corner to Chelsea Davis allowed the sophomore to fire a shot into the cage for her second of the year and a 1-0 lead.
  • Merrimack pressured late in the half and into the second, and tied the game on a penalty corner of their own, with Mary McNeil scoring at 40:47; this started a stretch of three goals in 10:08 as Rylie Hammond put the Warriors in the lead at 47:58 and Emma Dutremble scored at 51:55.
  • Merrimack had a chance with two minutes left to add another on a penalty stroke, but Alexis Torosian blocked it aside; she is two-for-two against strokes this season.
GAME NOTES:
  • Davis had two defensive saves, pulling back-to-back shots off the line late in regulation; her 12 career defensive saves move her into a tie for second all-time in program history, eight behind Katrina Heterbring '11 for first.
  • AIC has scored first in three of the team's five games; Davis and Lombardozzi have combined on all three goals
COACH'S CORNER:
  • "We played a strong first half, coming out hard and scoring first," assistant coach Hayley Grimes said after the game, adding "The second half, they did the same to us and were hungry to come back, and we simply need to be ready for that and adjust."
