LAST TIME OUT: Mikayla Demanche had a hat trick and
Jessica Lawler scored twice, including her 150th career point, but the third-ranked Dolphins of Le Moyne pushed past AIC with a 21-9 win on March 21. The Jackets battled hard all game long, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit, but every time the visiting squad made a run, the hosts had an answer.
Abigail Cavallo and
Brittany Hutchison each had a goal and assist for AIC, while
Alexis Torosian stopped nine bids in the setback.
Later that same day, the Greyhounds upended Franklin Pierce 11-10 in overtime in Rindge, New Hampshire. Assumption opened up a 7-2 lead early on the strength of a hat trick by Amanda Burns, but the Ravens had a run of their own, scoring five times to tie the game up before Assumption regained the lead, 8-7, before the half. The home side took leads of 9-8 and 10-9 in the second frame, but both times, Sarah Reilly scored to draw the game even, and then she took the opening draw down the field and scored at 0:13 of overtime to complete her four goal, two assist game with a win. Jaclyn Chirco stopped 11 shots in the victory.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Riley Brennan erupted for seven goals on nine shots as AIC downed Assumption 14-12 in last season's NE10 opener on March 1, 2016. Brennan had a first-half hat trick, but her squad was down 8-6 at the break. However, the captain took the team on her back, scoring twice in each of AIC's two second half runs of four goals to ultimately take the victory in Worcester. Lawler scored twice in the second half as well, while
Mary Bates had two goals in the first frame. Caitlin Graves had a hat trick for the Greyhounds, while goalkeepers Torosian and Chirco each stopped 13 shots for their teams.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Sophomore Sarah Reilly is the team's offensive leader, with 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in the team's four games, all best on the squad. She rarely misses the target, having taken 18 shots this season, with two misses and two more saves against for a 77.8 shooting percentage. Amanda Burns has seven goals, second on the team, while Quincy Wilkins has five goals and five assists for ten points and Graves has five goals and two assists for seven points. Chirco has stopped 37 shots, good for a .514 SV%.
MILESTONE WATCH: Several Yellow Jackets are closing in on significant numbers. Torosian is up to 458 saves as she seeks to become just the second AIC goalkeeper to reach 500 stops. Lawler is at 67 career assists, ten shy of the college's record, while Brennan has 92 goals and is closing in on triple digits.
