SYRACUSE, New York-The American International College women's lacrosse team fell to national no. 3 Le Moyne College by a score of 21-9 at Ted Grant Field on March 21.
AIC's record stands at 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne improves to 5-0, with a 2-0 NE10 mark.
Down 2-0 early, the Yellow Jackets got on the board off of a free-position attempt, as senior defender
Abigail Cavallo faked a shot and made a pass to junior attacker
Brittany Hutchison, who cut across the top of the crease and fired home her third of the year at 2:59.
Just under two minutes later, sophomore midfielder
Mikayla Demanche knotted the score, splitting the defense at the top of the circle and firing upper right for her sixth of the year at 4:46. However, the Dolphins responded with a goal just fourteen seconds later to retake the lead.
The Dolphins built up a 7-2 edge before the Jackets could strike again, with senior attacker
Stefanie Dufresne cutting from the right side and firing one low right for her eighth of the year at 11:55.
The teams then traded goals, with the Dolphins taking an 8-3 lead before senior attacker
Jessica Lawler earned her 150th career point by pounding home a man-up goal on a one-timer from Hutchison at 13:12.
Le Moyne scored again twice, but Demanche netted her second of the game and seventh of the year at 21:03 to bring the score to 9-5 for the hosts. However, the Dolphins scored the final two goals of the frame to take an 11-5 edge into the halftime break.
The hosts continued to extend the lead in the second frame, taking a 15-5 lead just after the ten minute mark of the half. Cavallo brought AIC back inside of single digits with a goal at 13:49, her first of the season.
Less than a minute later, Demanche cut across the left side and fired a shot home to complete the hat trick at 14:30, tallying for the eighth time of the season.
Le Moyne responded, but the Jackets would not quit, as Lawler struck for a second goal, her fourth of the year, at 16:58.
Again the teams traded tallies, with Lawler setting up senior attacker
Riley Brennan on a free-position bid at 20:22 for Brennan's twelfth of the season, cutting the deficit to 17-9.
However, the Dolphins scored the final four of the game, earning the 21-9 win.
