BROOKEVILLE, New York-The American International College men's lacrosse team suffered a 21-4 setback in their season opener at LIU Post.
AIC's record stands at 0-1 on the campaign.
The Pioneers, who hosted the game due to inclement weather, took advantage of home field, outscoring AIC 6-0 in each of the first two quarters. They had built up a 16-0 third-quarter edge when AIC broke the shutout, with senior attacker Kevin Papineau burying his first of the year at 8:59 of the frame.
The Jackets would add another goal in the period, as senior attacker John Magliano tickled the twine at 11:34, and AIC also struck twice in the final period, as rookie attacker Sam Scarfo buried his first collegiate goal at 4:10, and Papineau struck for a second goal at 7:11 on an assist from sophomore attacker Quinn Caesar. However, LIU scored the final three goals of the game for the 21-4 win.
