Volleyball pushes winning streak to 3 vs. Panthers

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College volleyball team hosted the Panthers of Adelphi. The Yellow Jackets won their third straight match, as they edged Adelphi in five sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After dropping the first set 20-25, AIC started off the second set by going on a 15-9 run and forcing an Adelphi timeout. Dropping the next three points to tighten the score at 15-12, the Yellow Jackets went on a three-point streak of their own to put the lead at 18-12, and closed out the second-set win with a 7-4 run.
  • Coming out strong in the third set by going on an 8-3 run, and Annie Boele and Jana Potic had two kills apiece during that run. Up 21-13 late in the set, the Yellow Jackets took the last four points, which included two kills from Boele.
  • Trailing 20-10 in the fourth set, AIC went on a 12-2 surge to tie up the set at 22-all. During the run, the Yellow Jackets produced five kills, but then proceeded to lose the next three points to lose the set and even the match at 2-2.
  • Starting off the final frame with a 7-3 advantage, AIC dropped five of the next seven points to put the score at 10-8. The Yellow Jackets ended up clinging on 15-13 to take the set and the match.
GAME NOTES:
  • Rivera is now just 45 digs away from becoming the career leader in digs in program history.
  • Kopren has recorded at least 30 or more assists in 15 games this season. Last season she replicated the same feat in 16 of the first 18 matches. She now ranks fourth all-time in program history in assists, recently passing Dawn Richardson. She currently trails Katherine Dunford by 233 assists. At the rate she has posted this season, Kopren would reach this mark in 29 more sets.
NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, October 10th at 7 p.m. The match-up with the Ravens will be the finale of a three-game home stand for AIC.
