Field hockey falls to Adelphi

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team suffered a 5-0 loss against the Adelphi Panthers at Abdow Field on Saturday, October 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Panthers broke through just shy of the 18-minute mark when Elizabeth Mercuri shot the ball home for her sixth of the season.
  • In the second half, the Panthers exploded for four tallies, as Mercuri scored again in the second minute of the frame, and Jackie Brown and Justine DeLuca each scored before the period was ten minutes old.
  • Chelsea Davis made a defensive save late in the half on a penalty corner.
  • Adelphi tacked on one more goal, as Danielle Kempf deflected a shot on a corner.
BUZZWORTHY:
  • Davis's defensive save tied the AIC single-season record of 11 set by Katrina Heterbring '11 in 2009; she is now one shy of Heterbring's career record of 20.
COACHES' CORNER:
  • "The team worked hard, but we need to capitalize on our scoring opportunities, especially on offensive corners. Our remaining four games are against strong opponents and we need to step up and rise to the occasion," head coach Rhonwen Peters said after the game.
