SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's soccer team cruised to a shutout win over Assumption College on Tuesday, October 10 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After just barely missing an opportunity wide minutes before, freshman J.P. Rylah converted off a pass from sophomore Steven Hernandez to give AIC a 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute.
- Sophomore Jovanni Garcia added a goal in the 54th minute to push the Yellow Jackets' lead to 2-0.
- Hernandez capitalized on a defensive miscue in the 68th minute to give AIC a 3-0 advantage.
- Sophomore captain Jake Durham had a header with just over nine minutes remaining to push the lead to 4-0.
- Hernandez made it 5-0 with his second goal of the game with 5:40 left to play.
BUZZWORTHY:
- The five-save shutout was the first shutout of freshman goalkeeper Ioannis Iatroudis's collegiate career.
- This is the second consecutive home game where AIC has won by a five-goal margin, as the team won 6-1 on September 30 against Saint Anselm.
- This is the first time AIC has beaten Assumption since 2011.
COACH'S CORNER:
- "We set out with a goal tonight to keep a clean sheet," said AIC men's soccer coach Luke Perry. "And it's great to get the win, but what we have to remember is it's only one game. We have to build off this, use it as confidence and work harder to make sure we're prepared for Saturday."
PLAYER'S CORNER:
- "I think it was very important that I performed on the field - two goals, two assists - anything to help the team win, to keep moving forward on the right track," Hernandez said. "It's a big step forward to going where we want to be at the end of the season."

- AIC continues its homestand with a matchup on Saturday, October 14 against Southern Connecticut State University. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
