MATCH NOTES/COACH'S CORNER:
  • Freshman Morgan Hill had her first collegiate victories at third singles and at second doubles; the doubles win was also junior Alice Calabrese's first collegiate victory.
  • AIC has now beaten Saint Rose each of the past two seasons.
  • "It was a really competitive match," said AIC tennis coach Loni Hammons. "Overall, I was pleased with the team's support for one another and focus throughout their matches against a competitive Saint Rose team that wasn't giving up."
  • "Our one doubles put up a great fight down at one point mid-match, and was able to overcome a tough St. Rose number 1 team," Hammons added. "Going into singles with a 3-0 lead, everyone was fueled to fight hard in their singles matches. Morgan received her first win of the season at singles today dropping only one game in each set, with strong serving to out-hit her opponent. Meri had the longest match of the day, battling it out with senior and left-handed player, Averie Bowen. Down 1-4 in the first set, Meri was able to rally for two more games until Averie took the first set 6-3. Meri cruised thru her second set, dropping only one game to get into a third set match tie break that was neck and neck at 11-11, until Averie was able to pull an ace out wide on the deuce side court and force the next error from us to take that match for St. Rose 13-11 in a match tie break."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC will next travel to North Easton, Massachusetts, to take on Stonehill College on Saturday, October 7.
