The American International College women's soccer team looks to keep their perfect conference record intact as they host the Le Moyne Dolphins under the lights of Abdow Field.
LAST TIME OUT: The Yellow Jackets
earned a hard-fought 1-0 win at Saint Rose on Saturday. AIC scored the lone marker of the contest in the twenty-third minute as a corner kick from senior midfielder
Stephanie Tweer was headed in by sophomore midfielder
Federica Frew to give the Jackets the lead. Less than two minutes later, the Golden Knights had their best scoring chance of the game, but a diving save by sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Brown kept the ball out of the net.
Le Moyne
rode two first half goals to a 2-1 win over the Saint Anselm Hawks. Rachel Terry broke the scoreless tie in the twenty-third minute on a shot from near the penalty spot, then Brielle Filtch fired home a cross from the top of the box in the thirty-fourth minute. Both goals were assisted by Kirsten Colgrove. Saint Anselm picked up a goal in the fiftieth minute to bring the game back within one, but did not net the equalizer despite seven total shots in the second frame.
LAST TIME THEY MET: AIC scored early and
held on for a 1-0 win over the Dolphins on September 30, 2015. It was
Alyssa Werbicki '16 who tallied the only goal of the contest in the fourteenth minute, pushing home a rebound of her own shot after a pass from sophomore
Johanna Nilsson. Nilsson and junior forward
Linnea Herbertsson both had scoring chances in the second half as well as AIC ultimately outshot the Dolphins 6-3 in the game.
FREW, CHAREYRON WIN AWARDS: Frew and senior back
Anais Chareyron each were
named Weekly Award winners by the Northeast-10 Conference for their performances last week. Frew picked up her first Player of the Week honors, while Chareyron was named Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second week in a row that a Yellow Jacket has won the latter award; senior midfielder
Jessica Margaretta took last week's honor. Brown and Tweer also earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
HOLD THE LINE: AIC has allowed a league-low two goals in four conference games so far, a 0.47 goals-against-average. Bentley and Merrimack, who have each allowed four goals in four games, are next best in conference play.
BIRTHDAY BALL GAME: Sophomore goalkeeper
Mikayla Demanche will have to wait until after tonight's game to have cake, as she celebrates her birthday today.
NEXT UP: AIC travels east to take on the Merrimack Warriors in a noontime contest in North Andover on Saturday.
