Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Rivera's Double-Double Not Enough Against Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, New York- The American International College volleyball team traveled to Syracuse, New York to face the 10-3 Le Moyne Dolphins. After struggling early, the Yellow Jackets came back to force a fifth game. However, the Dolphins ended up taking the match 3-2.

Early in the match the Dolphins showed why they have three losses on the season, as they took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-15. Coach Matt Cribbin rallied the Yellow Jackets between the second and third set. The Yellow Jackets came out and swung .250 with 22 kills to swarm back into the match. The third set was tough, but the Yellow Jackets hung on and took the set, 26-24.

The Yellow Jackets continued to swing well in the fourth set. As a team they swung .364 with 15 kills and took the set 25-20.

Both squads knew the fifth set would be tough. After dropping sets three and four, the Dolphins knew they had to score early and regain momentum. They came out and took the 5-1 lead, which prompted Coach Cribbin to call a timeout. The Yellow Jackets couldn't seem to get over the four point deficit as the Dolphins took the set and the match by a score of 15-9.

Diva Rivas-Reyes led both teams with 21 kills while freshman Jana Potic notched 16 kills. Annie Boele recorded 14 kills and 11 digs, for her seventh double-double of the season. Mercy Rivera's 21 digs tonight puts her just 11 away from joining the 1,000 dig club. She would become just the 10th Yellow Jacket in the 1,000 dig club. She currently sits 10th all-time in digs, trailing Syephanie O'Brian (1994-1997) who has 1019 and Kervelle Redhead (2008-2012) with 1028.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they take host St. Anselm College at noon and Mercy College at 4 p.m.
