The American International College field hockey team puts their perfect conference record on the line when they host the Franklin Pierce Ravens under the lights at Abdow Field.
LAST TIME OUT: AIC rode two early goals
to a 2-0 win over Southern Connecticut. Senior forward
Taylor Ruscillo knocked in a goal at 2:38, hitting a rebound out of midair to open the scoring. Under four minutes later, Ruscillo fed junior forward
Meghan Brock, who fired a shot five-hole at 6:06 for her first of the campaign. From there, sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Ross held the fort, making seven saves to record her second shutout of the year.
Franklin Pierce
suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Assumption Greyhounds, surrendering the only goal of their matchup in the final minute of regulation to Allison Sheahan on a rebound. The Ravens were outshot 6-3 in the game and out-cornered by a 6-1 margin as well.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Junior forward
Liv Magni scored a game-tying goal in the fifty-fifth minute on a penalty corner, but
ultimately then-tenth ranked Franklin Pierce earned a 2-1 win with a sixty-second minute goal by Reagan Moulton on September 23, 2015. AIC was outshot 18-8 in the contest, with an 8-6 shots on goal margin in the Ravens favor as well, and conceded eight corners, six in the second half. Ross made six saves in the defeat.
NUMBER NINE: For the first time since being named Head Coach, Ashley Mazzoli's squad
entered the NFHCA Coaches' Poll Top Ten, with a ranking of number nine in the nation. The highest AIC has ever been in the national poll is seventh, which came during the 2010 campaign.
ROSS THE BOSS: Taylor Ross currently leads the entire Northeast-10 Conference in goals against average with 0.59 (3 GA in 357:33) and is third in save percentage with .875 (21 SV on 24 SOG).
NEXT UP: AIC heads to the Queen City to battle Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday at noon.
