WEST HAVEN, Connecticut-The American International College field hockey team used two quick goals to topple the Southern Connecticut State Owls 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
AIC improves to 5-1 on the campaign and 1-0 in the NE-10.
Just 2:38 into the contest, senior forward
Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y.) knocked a rebound out of the air and into the net for her second of the season. Three and a half minutes later, she fired a pass that was tipped through the goalkeeper's legs by junior forward
Meghan Brock (Pittsford, N.Y.) at 6:06 for her first of the season.
That was all for the scoring, though AIC would end up putting nine shots on goal to the Owls' eight and draw 14 corners to Southern Connecticut's four over the course of the contest.
The Owls did have one dangerous chance that nearly broke the shutout in the forty-fifth minute, but rookie back
Chelsea Davis (Boonton, N.J.) pulled the ball off of the line to make a defensive save.
That was all the help sophomore
Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.) would need; she made seven saves to earn her second clean slate of the season and improve to 4-1 on the campaign.
AIC returns home Wednesday, September 21, to take on Franklin Pierce in NE-10 play. The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
