Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Carden's Six Goals Not Enough As Stagnant Second Half Sinks Women's Lacrosse at FPU, 13-10

RINGE, N.H. Senior Cheyenne Carden (Branford, Conn.) registered six goals to pace American International, but it was not enough as Franklin Pierce secured the, 14-10, victory in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action this evening from Sodexo Field.

AIC falls to 7-5 on the year and 4-4 in conference play while FPU moves to 7-4 overall and 4-4 in the NE-10 as well with the victory.

The Ravens opened the scoring just about a minute into the contest before the Jackets scored a pair of goals in just 56 seconds to take the 2-1 lead at the 25:34 mark. Carden and senior Erica McLean (Branford, Conn.) each collected free-position scores.

Franklin Pierce then rattled off five consecutive goals to take a 6-2 lead at the 12:05 mark of the first half before Carden potted her second of the game for the 6-3 score.

After FPU scored another it was AIC using the five-goal outburst to grab the 8-7 at halftime with a pair of goals from Carden and junior Riley Brennan (Wilbraham, Mass.) and a single score by junior Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass.).

However, coming out of the break it was Pierce scoring six straight and taking the 13-8 lead at the 5:55 mark of the second half. Caitlin Sweeny collected two goals and two assists during that stretch.

Carden added a few late goals to finally get the Jackets on the board in the second-half, but it was not enough as Pierce secured the victory.

Junior Alexis Torosian (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped 11 shots and falls to 7-5 with the setback. AIC was outshot 39-24 including a 24-20 clip on target while each team collected 13 draws and FPU held the 16-9 edge in ground balls.

AIC returns to action on Saturday as they travel to No. 1 Adelphi University for a 2 p.m. tilt.
