Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Drops First of Season at Molloy, 13-11

ROCKVILLE CENTER, N.Y. Junior Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass.) collected four goals and added a pair of assists, but it was not enough as American international College dropped a, 13-11, decision to Molloy College in non-conference women's lacrosse action this evening from the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex.

AIC (2-1) opened the scoring quickly jumping out to a 3-0 lead on goals from juniors Jessica Fontana (Westerly, R.I.), Riley Brennan (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Dufresne in the first ten minutes of play.

Molloy (2-1) responded to tie the game back up with three of their own for the 3-3 tie at the 14:29 mark before Brennan and freshman Mikayla Demanche (Rochester, Mass.) scored just 70 seconds apart for the 5-3 lead with 9:24 to play in the opening half.

The Lions came back again to tie things at 5-5 before freshman Mary Bates (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored with just one second left on the clock for the 6-5 lead at the break.

Molloy tied things early in the second with a goal from Cooper Sesselman, but Dufresne tilted the score right back in favor of the Jackets with her second of the game at the 25:35 mark for the 7-6 edge. The Lions clawed right back, however, scoring 5 of the next six goals including a trio by Sesselman before Dufresne scored a pair just 58 ticks apart to make the score 11-10 at the 10:33 mark.

The teams then traded goals as junior Jessica Lawler (Mexico, N.Y.) scored for AIC again bringing the game within one-goal at 12-11 with 6:30 remaining in regulation.

That was as close as they would get; however, as the hosts tighten their defense and Sesselman added an insurance goal for the final score.

Junior net-minder Alexis Torosian (Hopkinton, Mass.) falls to 2-1 on the season after collected 12 saves in the defeat while her counterpart, Caroline Winters, stopped 19 shots in the victory.

AIC outshot the Lions 34-29 and was 14-15 on clear attempts while also holding the slim 14-11 edge in draws.

The Jackets return to action on Wednesday as they travel down to Florida Tech for a 7 p.m. affair.
